Iron Sharpening Iron

Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

Proverbs 27:6 says, "Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful."

Here, in these two proverbs, we see the idea of a true friend holding one's friend accountable, keeping him sharp and righteous - not letting him go astray.

Because talk radio and conservative commentators have become so central to our lives, it is incumbent upon us to hold them accountable, to keep them on task, fighting for the true goal.

Otherwise, they might become distracted by the trappings of the position they hold, believing themselves anointed and immune from a fall.

So in The Blog I will discuss the work of Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, Rush Limbaugh and others. Pioneers and leaders all. But still men and in need of commentary to keep them focused or in gentle rein.

Who among us has not noted that even those who hold our chiefest respect can falter from time to time. Who among us has not been frustrated at their missing a caller's point or dodging away from our favorite issue to defend the status quo?

The new media gives us the opportunity, even duty, to keep the new gatekeepers from becoming like the former ones. We can not afford to let down our guard. I doubt they would much disagree.

In turn, they will sharpen us back. The gentle reader is asked to come along on this venture and not be shy in sharpening them, in being sharpened back and in sharpening me.
